Momentous May – 31 Days of Yoga

The Prelude to Summer Solstice and the cusp of Nature’s arc occurs in the momentous month of May. May’s Challenge will lead you to June 21 Summer Solstice National Indigenous People’s Day. We celebrate May with our biannual 30 Day Challenge. Join us for 31 days of Community, Guest Teachers, Prizes, and Practice. This May, we are excited to host Julia McCabe, Guy Friswell, Jessica Barudin, and Risto Duggan. Many of you may be familiar with Julia, Guy, and Risto as they have led us in last November’s Challenge. This May, we are honoured to be graced by Jessica Barudin. Jessica is  Kwakwaka’wakw, a member of the ‘Namgis First Nation living in Alert Bay, BC. She is a proud mother, Sundancer, doctoral student, doula, and trauma-informed yoga teacher. She is the Traditional Wellness Specialist for Vancouver Island with the First Nations Health Authority. Jessica is also the co-director of the First Nations Women’s Yoga initiative.

In 2018, a totem pole that Joe David carved in honour of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nation hereditary chiefs was erected in Tofino. It is meant to serve as a constant reminder of Tla-o-qui-aht’s history and the hereditary chief’s spiritual and physical stewardship of the hahoułee, known as traditional territory.
